Jean Sikes Couey

Jean Sikes Couey, age 87, passed away from heart failure Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in Bartow. Born January 23, 1927 in Bartow, she was the daughter of the late Raleigh O. and Pearl (Horne) Sikes. Jean was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bartow. She retired from the Polk County School Board after 25 years of service as a PABX Operator. She is preceded in death by her husband Henry L. Couey who passed away just nine days earlier her on February 17, 2014. She is surivved by a loving family that includes her son Gary Couey (Deborah) of Brandon, her daughter Sandra Stenger of Bartow, her grandchildren; Lee Couey (Danette), Kim Stenger, Carrie Bell, Hank Stenger, and her great grandchildren; Cody, Kaylee, Caden, Coby, Logan, Kinley, Bradley, and Tanner. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 2nd from 5PM to 7PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow on Monday, March 3rd at 11:00AM at the funeral home chapel.
