Jan Miller went home to be with Jesus on July 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. The Lord deeply blessed Janwith his beloved wife, Sue; his two sons, Doug and Mark Miller; his cherished daughter-in-love, Rachel; and three wonderfulgrandchildren, Blaine, Bailey, and Maddie, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. His family has received salvation through Jesus Christ.
He was born on August 8, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia, to David P. and Lucille R. Miller. In 1950, Jan moved with his family, including his brother, David Shaun Miller, to Florida.
Jan attended Lakeland Junior High and graduated from Lakeland Senior High in 1958. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as an aviation ordnanceman and supervised flight deck operations with Fighter Squadron VF-92 aboard the U.S.S. Lexington, U.S.S. Ticonderoga, and U.S.S. Ranger.
He honorably served four years in the Navy and later served one year in the Army Reserve as a Specialist 5 with the 442nd unit based in Orlando.
Jan participated in the Flight to Honor, Mission #7, during April 2022. His son, Mark, accompanied him as a guardian. Upon returning to Lakeland, Jan and the other veterans received a hero’s welcome from a legion of patriotic Lakeland residents.
After his Naval military service, he attended college full-timeand graduated with high honors from the University of South Florida, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. His academic achievements included membership in Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Phi Theta Kappa, as well as recognition by the Gold Key Honor Society and the Dean’s List throughout his college years.
After graduating from the University of South Florida, Jan began a career with the State of Florida Department of Labor, where he worked for 26 years before retiring. He later spent 10 years with a leasing firm as an Accounts Receivable and Insurance Specialist.
Jan loved motorcycling and was a member of the FAITH Riders Motorcycle Ministry at First Baptist Church in Lakeland. He treasured the miles ridden across God’s beautiful country with his friends, fellow motorcyclists, and loving wife, Sue.
He also had a deep love for music and especially enjoyed singing in the church choirs at First Baptist Church and Parkview Baptist Church.
Visitation (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM) and Memorial Service (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM) will take place at Parkview Baptist Church, located at 509 Parkview Place, Lakeland, on Friday, July 17, 2026. Burial will take place on a future date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice House in Lakeland or the Parkinson’sFoundation.
