James M. Scribner

Mr. James M. Scribner, age 94, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his home in Bartow, FL. Born August 11, 1915 in Attica, Indiana, Mr. Scribner was the son to the late James M. and Othelia Scribner. Mr. Scribner was a graduate of Northern Illnios College of Optometry. He was a member of the Optometry Fraternity, Omega Delta Alpha. Mr. Scribner had an office and practiced Optometry in Dunkirk, IN, from 1942 to 1988. He was also a Mason, and a life member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge in Dunkirk. Mr. Scribner moved to Bartow recently from Wildwood, FL, where he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Norma Belle Scribner, son Jeffery W. Scribner, and brother Robert Scribner. He is survived by a daughter, Marjorie E. Gay of Bartow, James Madison Scribner, IV, of Arlington, VA, three grandchildren; Andrea Croom (Dennis) of Bartow, David W. Gay of Indiana, and Francis Gay (Heather) also of Indiana. Mr. Scribner also leaves behind six great grandchildren; Kaitlyn Croom, Adrianna Croom, Zachary Gay, Jacob Gay, Sarah Gay, and Elijah Ian Gay. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street in Bartow where the family will receive friends Saturday, May 22nd from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 29th at 2:00pm at Garden of Memories Cemetery and Mausoleum in Muncie, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
