James W. Scarborough

James W. "Jimmy" Scarborough, age 70 of Wauchula, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Orlando. Born October 15, 1944 in Winter Haven, he was the son of the late Wiley and Edna Scarborough. Mr. Scarborough was a graduate Summerlin Institute in 1962 and the University of Georgia. He was an Eagle Scout. Jimmy and his wife Janet moved to Wauchula from Polk County 43 years ago. He owned and operated Heartland Appraisal Service in Wauchula for many years. Jimmy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bartow and was ordained as a deacon in 1984. He also taught Men's Sunday School for many years and was very active in the Food Pantry Ministry. Mr. Scarborough is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 49 years, Janet Scarborough of Wauchula, two sons: James “Jay” Scarborough, Jr. (Kamie) of Loughman, and Jess Scarborough (Seena) also of Wauchula. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jacob Scarborough, Dalton Brewer, Hannah Scarborough, Sarah Scarborough, and Jase Scarborough, three siblings: John Everett Scarborough (Diane) of Helena, GA, Ginger Reichart (Tim) of Lakeland, Alice Voigt (Charles) of Alturas and his mother-in-law Mary Kight Holland of Wauchula. The family will receive friends Friday, July 3, 2015 from 10am to 11am at the First Baptist Church of Bartow Ministry Center. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the ministry center. Memorial contributions may be made to the food pantry at the First Baptist Church of Bartow, 410 East Church Street, Bartow, FL 33830.
