James Alvin Porterfield, 85, of Fort Meade, FL, died Tuesday, Feb 9, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Porterfield was born Dec. 22, 1924 in Okahumpka, FL. He was a graduate of Fort Meade High School class of 1942. Mr. Porterfield was a Supervisor at Swift & Company/Estech for 47 years and he was a well known Gator Trapper. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was preceded in death by his Brother, Earl Porterfield and Granddaughter, Cynthia Skipper.
He is survived by his four Daughters; Amylrus Frazier of Jasper, FL, Glenda Windham & husband Stanley of Jasper, FL, Sylvia Stevensen and husband Dave of Starke, FL and Dawn Stark & husband Jace of Ona, FL.
One Son, James Anthony Porterfield & wife Cathy of Frostproof, FL. Nine Grandchildren; Vince Windham, Kevin Windham, Robbie Lott, Justin Buckley, Courtney Buckley, Aubrey Stark, Ashley Richerson, Brandon Porterfield, and Dana Stevensen. Nine Great-Grandchildren, three Great Great-Grandchildren, two Nieces and one Nephew. Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway in Fort Meade, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, Feb 12, 2010. Funeral Service will be held at Peace River Park at the boat ramp in Fort Meade at 10:00 am Saturday, Feb 13, 2010, Rev. Bill Whitener officiating.
