James L. Gassett

James L. Gassett, age 88, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in Lakeland of complications of dementia . Born September 25, 1925 in Homeland, FL, Mr. Gassett was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a WW II Navy Veteran. He was a welder for Mobil Phosphate for many years. He was a member of the Hebron Primative Baptist Church and active in ministerial work in several Baptist churches for many years. Mr. Gassett was preceded in death by his wife Verna Faye Gassett. He is survived by his sister: Lois Reid [John] of Kathleen, FL; nieces: Ann Reid of Kathleen & Patricia Garcia (Jose) of Homeland; nephews: David Gassett of Homeland & Wes Reid of Lakeland; grandniece: Candace Garcia of Homeland; two grandnephews: Clifton "C.J." Garcia and Joseph Garcia of Homeland. Family will receive friends Tuesday September 16, 2014 from 9 - 10 AM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
