Bartow- Mr. J. F. "Pete" Denham, 92, of Bartow, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at New Horizon Share Home in Winter Haven. Mr. Denham was born in Bartow January 30, 1915 and was a longtime resident. He was an auditor for Swift & Co. Fertilizer for 37 yrs. He attended the University of Florida. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Bartow. He and his wife Jewell were very active in many community projects including the Bartow Chamber of Commerce; co-chairman of the Bartow Relay of Life; "Just Say No" Dare drug program; & co-recipient of the Spirit of Bartow award in 1990. He was a life member & past president of the Bartow Lions Club; After retirement, he became the administrator for the Municipal Bd of Examiners of Polk Co, for over 17 yrs. He & his wife were partners in Pete & Jewell's Greenery for several yrs. He was a avid hunter & fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 67 yrs, Jewell H. Denham of Bartow; two daughters: Sue & husband L.R Vaughn; Lyn & husband Joseph Pepper ; grandsons: Scott D. & wife Jaci Vaughn & Bradford Vaughn all of Weston; granddaughter; Carolyn S. Pepper of Chicago, IL; grandsons: Michael Pepper of Madison, MS & Parke Pepper of Senatobia, MS. Family will receive friends Tues, July 24, 6-8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 E. Main St, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Wed, July 25 at 11 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall St, 19th Floor, New York, NY, 10005 or the Pete Denham Memorial Fund, Bartow First Baptist Church, 410 E.
