On Monday, April 19, 2021, Idmon “Andy” Anderson, Jr., loving husband, and family man, passed away at the age of 94. Andy was born September 17, 1926 to Idmon, Sr and Mary Ellen Anderson. After graduating high school from Summerlin Institute in Bartow, FL, Andy joined the United States Air Force and served in logistics during WWII. Andy met and married his wife Lillian in 1951 in Tooele, Utah while stationed at the Tooele Army Depot during the Korean conflict. Andy and Lillian had 1 daughter and were married for 64 years until Lillian’s death in December of 2015. Andy was best known for his gregarious nature, quick wit and natural charm. He owned and operated Compressed Air Products in Mulberry, FL from 1963 until he retired in 2004. An avid fisherman, he travelled the world in search of the big one but was happiest at his cabin in the 10,000 islands. Andy was an active member of both the Bartow and Mulberry Chambers of Commerce, sat on the boards of the Bartow Hospital and Leadership Bartow and was president of the Bartow Lion’s club for a time. Andy was charitable with both his time and money. His favorite charity was the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch. He hosted an annual BBQ fund raiser for them for 20 years. Andy was preceded in death by his father, Idmon, mother, Mary, sisters, Mildred and Allie and wife Lillian. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Leigh, grandsons Michael (Jill) and Shane (Lori Ann), great grandsons Anderson and Dominick and great granddaughter Nataleigh. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 10am to 11am at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment and committal with military honors will be in Florida National Cemetery at 2:00pm in Bushnell.
