Helen Isabelle Wilson, 87, member of two pioneer Polk County families, died Monday, April 21, 2014 respiratory failure at her home in Bartow. A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Daphne Valerie Lewis Wilson and Milton D. Wilson.
A graduate of Summerlin Institute in Bartow, she completed her education at Florida State University where she was a member and past president of Chi Omega Sorority. She was also a member and past president of the Polk County Hospital Auxiliary, a former director and member of the Florida History Associates, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Character Education in Public Schools, and the Polk County Historical Association. As a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bartow, she participated in the Alter Guild and was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who brought wisdom, wit, and comfort to all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Daphne Boswell Putnam (Tim) of Winter Haven, William Wilson Boswell of Bartow, Clarence Alexander Boswell, III (Karen) of Bartow, and Valerie Isabelle Butler (Joey) of Bartow. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Melissa Butler Witmer, Kristina Butler Parker, Raymond Dean Butler, Laura Valerie Putnam, Thomas Wilson Putnam, and Sarah Katherine Putnam, four great grandchildren: Isabelle Margaret Witmer, William Gavin Witmer, Hunter Kane Parker, and Haylie Marie Parker
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:00A.M. at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bartow with the Very Reverend Father Gary L. Jackson officiating. Interment services will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. 197 Bartow, FL 33831.
