Grace Benton Thompson

Grace Benton Thompson age 90, formerly of Haines City and Lakeland, passed away from natural causes, November 18, 2011 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she had been living with her daughter. Grace was born in Pavo, Georgia to William Garney Benton and Birdie Lena (Spears) Benton on April 8, 1921. She moved with her family to Florida as a small child. She met and married Homer Thompson in 1938. They had five children, Ronald, Sandra, James, Dennis and Rory. She is survived by sons, James Thompson, Tifton, GA, Dennis Thompson, Madison, FL, and daughter, Sandra (Thompson) Ehlers, Sioux Falls, SD, 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, sister Thelma Ruth Mathis, Lakeland and brothers Harold Benton, Bartow and Harry Benton, Lakeland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Homer, sons Ronald and Rory, mother and father, brothers Glenn, Selma, Milton, Hugh, Merle and sister Lois. Local arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street in Bartow where the family will receive friends from 10am to 11am Wednesday, November 23rd. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel.
