Virginia J. "Ginger" Fortner, age 66, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at Palm Terrace Hospice in Lakeland of Respiratory failure. Born May 2, 1946 in Plant City, Mrs. Fortner was a resident of Bartow for 42 years, moving from Lithia, Florida, She was a Human Resources Administrator with CF Industries for many years. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church serving as pianist, Sunday School Teacher & Mission Director for many years. She was a member of Florida Woman's Missionary Union serving as recording secretary from 1989-1994; Baptist Women Committee Chair; WMU Leadership Team Leader; Area Representive & Regional Consultant; Terry Missionary House Committee; Florida Baptist Children's Home Committee; WMU Scholarship Committee Leader. She also served as South Florida Association WMU Director; Mission Service Corp Missionay North American Mission Board Member & Bartow Regional Medical Center Chaplian. She was a member of the Bartow Lioness Club & Bartow Chamber of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband; W.C. Fortner. She is survived by her sister: Jane Saranko & husband Jimmy of Plant City; a brother: Bill Simms & wife Nancy of Tampa, & numerous nieces & nephews. Family will receive friends Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow.
