Naples- George Earnest Williams, age 83, born and raised in his hometown of Bartow, died of a heart attack at his home in Naples about 3 P.M. Thursday, February 15, 2007. Death was apparently instantaneous. His parents Dutch and Ruby, his friends, relatives, and Mr. Bosarge were often in his thoughts. He is survived by his wife Muriel T. Williams of Naples; his brother Frank M. Williams MD of Largo; his sister Mary Margaret Odom of Miami. Mr. Williams was a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a World War II Naval Officer. He was assigned by the Navy to study electronics at Harvard. After some years of duty in the Pacific and on weather patrol in the North Atlantic, he attended Mass. Institute of Technology from which he received an M.S. degree in Industrial Management. He was a consulting engineer for several years. Later he was Chief Financial Officer of Otis Elevator Co., and retired as a Vice President of United Technologies. The civic duty he most enjoyed was serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Naples Community Hospital. Family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church, 455 S. Broadway, Bartow, Florida, from 12 noon to 1 P.M. on Tuesday, February 20, with services to follow at 1 P.M. Internment will be at Bartow Wildwood Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Methodist Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch, Inc., P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064. A memorial service will held in Naples at a later date. Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow.
