George Coplin Watson

Ft. Meade - George Coplin Watson went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 1, 2011 due to respiratory failure. George was born on February 18, 1941 to Lamar Watson and Pauline Coplin Watson of Ft. Meade, FL. As a child his family relocated to Alaska and as a young man he worked in Alaska as a commercial salmon fisherman, and continued to travel back to Alaska for the summer salmon fishing season for several years after returning to Ft. Meade in 1968. George then worked in the construction industry for many years in the Ft. Meade area before founding his reclamation company, J & M Grassing. After retirement he enjoyed caring for his cattle and goats. George enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sylvia and truly loved the many family vacations and fishing trips. He attended First Christian Church of Wauchula where he was very active in the church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. George is preceded in death by his 1st wife of 31 years, Judi Farris Watson. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sylvia Stephens Anderson Watson of Ft. Meade; daughters, Tana (Tim) Davis of Bartow and Tamara (Rev. David) Sharp of Palm Coast; son, Jason (Susan Raney) Watson of Bartow; Step-Son, Gordon Anderson of Orlando; grandchildren, Mathew, Zachary, Cole, Andrew, Kateland and Kenny. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom (Sherrie) Baldridge of Alaska and Ronnie (Jane) Watson of Oklahoma, and a sister, Carla Gregory of Michigan. Family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Home 306 East Broadway, Ft. Meade, FL 33841 on Tuesday, July 5th from 5 - 7 PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 AM at the First Christian Church of Wauchula 1121 W. Louisiana Street, Wauchula, FL 33873. Memorial gifts can be made to the Youth Groups of First Christian Church, Wauchula or First United Methodist Church, Ft. Meade. Condolences may be sent to the the family at www.mcleanfuneralhome.net.
