Gena S. Harkins

Gena S. Harkins lost her battle with cancer June 15, 2011. Gena was born Gena Sue Smith in Cairo, Georgia, July 30, 1950. After graduation from Bainbridge High School in 1968, she began a career with the State of Florida in Tallahassee which spanned 33 years. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Paul Harkins of Bartow, Florida, her son, Will Harkins of Charlotte, North Carolina, her sister, Sharon Brandon of Thomasville, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews. Gena is preceded in death by her mother, Verna E. Smith, her father, James W. Smith of Cairo, Georgia, and her sister Nancy Horne of Iron City, Georgia. For those touched by knowing Gena, please know that she was at peace having realized that she fulfilled her wishes to be the best wife to Paul, mother to Will, and that she is held fast in God's embrace. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 205 East Stanford St. in Bartow at 3:00PM.
