Gary Wiersum, age 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, after his brave fight with cancer. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and in his final days he said, “I lived a good life.”

Gary was born to Harold and Genevieve Wiersum on August 20, 1948. He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; sisters, Charlotte Gilde and Sandra Lyons; and brothers, Dale, Jeffrey, and Todd.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda McDonald Wiersum; daughters, Anne Wiersum and Nichole Wiersum; sons, Scott Wiersum and Aaron Wiersum; grandchildren Barbara (David), Jessica (Kent), Cynthia, Scott II, Logan, Felicia (Aaron), Briana, Paytan, Presley, Nathan, Alexis, and Hunter; great-grandchildren Danielle, Loralei, Bryce, Stone, Steele, Luxen, and Everett; and his brother, Ron (Carol). Gary also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, stepchildren (Lisa and Jamie), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends.

Gary’s passions and hobbies included golf, playing cards, gambling, hunting, fishing, operating heavy equipment, and enjoying a Coors Light with his friends at the VFW, Moose Lodge, and American Legion. Most of all, he enjoyed visiting family and friends, though he was known to never stick around long, earning him the nickname “Gotta Go Gary.” While he enjoyed life, he was also active in the community, volunteering his time preparing food at various local events. He was especially known for his goulash, chili, and beans.

While Gary did not profess the Christian faith for most of his life, he experienced a beautiful transformation in his final weeks. He committed his life to Jesus Christ, accepting God’s grace and the gift of salvation. He passed with the confident hope of Heaven, surrounded by the love of his family and friends and the redeeming mercy of his Savior. Although our family is saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is in a better place.
