Garth Bell

Garth Bell, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, at his residence in Lakeland. He was born on September 16, 1927, in Georgetown, British Guyana, South America. As a young man, he attended Loughborough University in England where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the rowing team. Upon graduation, Garth moved to Canada and met the love of his life, June Bowie. They were married on October 25, 1958, in Montreal. One of their favorite pastimes was skiing in the Laurention Mountains with friends. In 1959, Garth and June started their family with the birth of a son, Donald. The family then moved to Trinidad to be close to Garth’s brother, Desmond. While there, the family grew with the birth of their twins, Jacqueline and Michael. In 1964, Garth and his family moved to Lakeland, Florida, where they built their dream home. A fourth child, Christine, completed the family shortly thereafter. Garth was a founding partner and joint owner of the company Langbein and Bell Engineers for about thirty years. Garth’s favorite pastimes included being with his family, playing with his kids and spending time on his Ham Radio. He was very proficient on the radio having mastered Morse code and assisted with communications around the world. Upon retirement, Garth enjoyed building and flying remote-control model airplanes and was a member of a local flying club. He also volunteered for the Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo for at least 10 years. Garth and June loved to travel all around the world, as well as spending summers in the North Carolina mountains. Garth was especially close to Desmond and his family in Trinidad and enjoyed seeing them often. They also visited lots of family in England. Over the years, Garth and June delighted in RVing and square dancing. Garth was preceded in death by a brother, Desmond, and two sisters, Barbara and Carole. He is survived and will be missed by his loving family including his wife, June Bell, of Lakeland, sons Donald Bell (Glenn) of Brandon and Michael Bell (Marte) of Neptune Beach, daughters Jacqueline Farrell (Joe) of Lantana and Christine Bartholomew of Newnan, GA, sisters-in-law Beryl Bell of Trinidad and Anne Bleasdale (Charles) of England, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews throughout the world. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 1PM at Highland Park Church, 4777 Lakeland Highlands Road, Lakeland, FL 33813.
