Evelyn Chandler Acorn

Bartow - Evelyn Chandler Acorn, age 95, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, July 29, 2024. She was born January 17, 1929 in Hilton, GA to Coy Lee & Glennie Temples Chandler. Upon graduating from Hilton High School in 1947, she and her family relocated to Bartow, Florida. Evelyn began her working career at Ben Hill Griffin Canning Plant as a sectionizer and eventually retired as a timekeeper in the payroll department. After a short retirement, she worked in retail as a sales associate with JCPenney. Evelyn’s last career move was to the State of Florida Department of Revenue, where she held the position of receptionist. She was a member of Lake Ruth Baptist Church of Bartow. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton R. Acorn; brothers Thomas L. Chandler, Coy Howard Chandler, Harold L. Chandler and Larry L. Chandler; sisters Dorothy Chandler Stinson and Runette Chandler McGowan. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Sheron Acorn (William Peeples) of Bartow, Sharon (Lawrence) Skidmore of Lakeland and Carol (Brent) Busby of Lakeland, son Ronnie (Kathy) Acorn of Franklin, TN; five grandchildren Brooke Busby, Jason (Amanda) Busby, Justin (Katie) Skidmore, Evan Acorn and Whitney Skidmore;. five great grandchildren Waylon Busby, Iris Busby, Charlize Garcia, Holden Skidmore, Lucy Skidmore and great-great-grandchild Walker Scroggins. Family will receive friends Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow, FL. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, August 2, 2024 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home. The burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL.
