Euby Vernon Bennett, age 87, of Fort Meade, FL, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Tampa, FL. Mr. Bennett was born September 27, 1922 in Pierce, FL. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II. As a young man, Mr. Bennett moved West. He had many different occupations during his lifetime. He was Deputy Sheriff in Coconino, Gila, and Maricopa Counties, an oil company executive, but his greatest joy was being a Cowboy. In 1986 he moved back to Fort Meade. He worked as a security guard at AgriChem and the Polk County Courthouse. He was a proud member of the Fort Meade American Legion Post 23 and the National Rifle Association, through which he taught children that guns were for hunting and were to be respected. He was a member of the First Church of God. He was an avid gardner. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Rufus & Inez Cobb and William Perry Bennett. Grandparents; GG & Emma Watson, who raised him. Brother; Wilbur Cobb. He is survived by his wife of 23 years Fonda Bennett of Fort Meade. Six Children; Tina & husband John St. Pierre, Mae & husband Bob Teddar, Peggy Wood, Bruce & wife Lucy Bennett and Frank & wife Norma Bennett all of Arizona. Ruth Marie Tillson of Alaska. Five Stepchildren; Kathy & husband Kenny Gainer of Mulberry, Jean Madden of Frostproof, Shari & husband Jim Reed of Winter Haven, Marie Pfaff and Tom & wife Cindy Sanborn both of Michigan. Numerous Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway in Fort Meade, FL, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Saturday, September 18, 2010. Funeral service will be at McLean Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18, 2010. Rev. Travis Risner officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade, FL.
