Edwin E. Mercer 84 of Alturas passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011
from cancer. Born May 23, 1927 in Live Oak, FL, he traveled extensively with
his family but considered Alturas his home. Edwin was a WW II, Korean and Viet
Nam War Veteran. He served five years in the U.S. Navy and twenty-one years in
the U.S. Air Force, retiring with twenty-six years of military service. He was a
member of the Bartow American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded
in death by son Duane Mercer and is survived by his wife Montez Young Mercer of
Alturas, daughter Glenda Crawford and husband David of Winter Haven,
daughter-in-law Candy Mercer of Bartow, daughter Rebecca Bryan of Auburndale,
daughter Alice Fowler of Lake Wales, daughter Carolyn Pollock and husband Lyle
of Lake Alfred and son Jerald Mercer of Paradise, TX. Two brothers Calvin
Mercer of Live Oak, and Virgil Mercer of Jacksonville and sister Betty leDeaux
of Jacksonville. He had nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd from 2-3 pm at
Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow with a Memorial Service starting at 3pm.
