Doyle Carlton Spears, Sr. 83, of Wauchula, FL, died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at His residence in Wauchula. Mr. Spears was born January 22, 1928 in Zolfo Springs, FL to Dr. B.D. Spears & Minnie Carlton Spears. He was raised in Wauchula and graduated from The Bolles School in Jacksonville. He graduated from Gupton Jones in Nashville, TN being the first to graduate from their new associate program with the University of Tennessee. Doyle served in the Army during the Korean War and during this time he met & married Sara Reeves from Newberry, SC. After his Army service he attended Stetson University. In 1957 he began his employment at First Federal of Hardee County, where he stayed for the next 28 years going from Assistant Secretary/Tresurer to President & Chairman of the Board. Doyle was a life member of the Elks, a member of the American Legion Post #2 and the American Legion Honor Guard. He was a charter member of the David Twiggs camp 1462, the Military order of the Stars and Bars, a 50 plus member of the Wauchula Masonic Lodge and the Gold Tower Society at The Bolles School. He also served 10 years on the Wauchula City Council, two years as Chairman. He was a Deacon, Elder and Tresurer at the First Presbyterian Church. He later was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wauchula. He is survived by his
wife of 58 years Sara Spears of Wauchula. Son, Doyle & wife Lynne Spears, Jr. of Atlanta, GA. Three Grandchildren, Brooke Spears of Charleston, SC, Stacy Spears & Ben Spears both of Atlanta, GA. Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway in Fort Meade. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 207 N. 7th Street in Wauchula. Funeral service will be at First United Methodist Church of Wauchula at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 3, 2011 , Pastor Danielle Upton
