Dorothy Weaver, 85, passed away on February 10th, 2015 in Lakeland. Born September 27, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was known to her family and friends for her determination, creativity, and beauty. She was a stubborn advocate for working women in the 60s and 70s and as an employee of the US Postal Service, became one of the first female letter carriers in Indiana. She made sure her hair and nails were perfectly groomed as she delivered sacks of mail throughout the Indianapolis downtown office buildings as well as in many residential neighborhoods. She learned to pilot a plane and completed her first solo flight in 1975. She loved to travel and enjoyed dancing and social activities. A resident of Bartow, Florida for more than 20 years, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald Weaver, and her son, David Weaver. She is survived by her son, Douglas Weaver; her daughter, Karen Weaver; her grandson and ward, Steven Weaver; her grandchildren, Nicole Lyng, Trisha Baumgardt, Jason Weaver, Ashley Weaver Vosika, Andy Weaver, Darcy Morrison, Doni Husler; her sisters, Sandy Conners and Margaret Poore; more than a dozen great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
