Dora R. "Becky" Stewart

Dora R. "Becky" Stewart, age 85, passed away from complications of a stroke on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Lakeland. Born August 26, 1929 in Pierce, FL, she was the daughter of the late William Malry and Dorothy Anita Price. She attended Pierce School and Mulberry High School. She married her husband, Mike, on June 1st, 1946 and enjoyed 51 years of marriage. She volunteered at her church, First Baptist Church of Bartow, teaching crafts at Vacation Bible School and was very active in the Bartow High School Band Boosters for many years. Becky began working for Publix Supermarkets at the Bartow store and bakery. She then moved to the Publix store at Grove Park Shopping Center in Lakeland where she was a cashier. She also trained the cashiers and bagboys, many of them going on to management and executive positions. She and her husband, Mike, traveled extensively to all fifty (50) states of the US and more than 22 countries. For their 50th wedding anniversary, they made a month-long trip to China. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren and to the love of her life, her husband, Mike. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Mike Stewart. She is survived by a loving family that includes her children: Lee Stewart of Tampa, Gail Morgan (James) of Lakeland, her brother Bill Price of Georgia, her grandchildren: Matthew Morgan (Kali), Kyle Morgan (Elizabeth), Nicole Greene (David), her great grandchildren: Madison and Grayson Greene, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, September 26th from 6 PM to 8 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow Saturday, September 27th at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bartow Church Service Center, SPCA or charity of choice.
