It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dora N. Calderon, who peacefully departed this world on July 10, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on September 17, 1930, in the picturesque town of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, Dora was the cherished daughter of Ramiro Rivera and Rosa M. Rosario.

Dora's life was a testament to resilience and determination. Although her formal education concluded after the 9th grade in her hometown, she had a tenacity that would lead her to new horizons. In 1952, driven by the dream of a brighter future, she bravely ventured to the United States. Her journey was not just a geographical one but a transformation that involved immense sacrifice and hard work.

Dora briefly joined the workforce at the GMC factory in the 1950s but dedicated her life to maintaining a clean house and taking care of the family she cherished above all else.

Dora was a devoted member of the Pentecostal Christian Church, where her faith was a source of strength and comfort. She found joy in sewing, reading the Bible, and the hearty laughter evoked by classic comedies. Her favorites included the timeless humor of Glen Campbell, the Three Stooges, and the Little Rascals.

Dora's legacy is not one of academic awards or professional titles but of the enduring qualities she imparted to her family and friends. Her life was a beacon of love, strength, and perseverance.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eladio Calderon, and her daughter, Lourdes Calderon, whose memories she cherished deeply. Today, she leaves behind a family who will forever hold her close in their hearts. Her surviving family includes Mildred Rivera, Andres Rivera, Ivan Calderon, Damian Calderon, and Norman Calderon. Dora's love and wisdom will continue to guide her 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life.

As a kidney cancer survivor, Dora's courage was an inspiration to all who knew her.

In her memory, let us carry forth her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience, and may we find peace in the promise of a reunion in the hereafter.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.
