Donald Charles Yost, age 69, passed away from cancer Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at home in Bartow. Born in St. Petersburg, FL on October 23, 1944, Don was the son of the late John Charles and Louise B. Yost. Mr. Yost moved to Bartow from Plant City in 1954. He was a graduate of Summerlin Institute in 1962. Don worked in aluminum construction at Inter Alloys Inc. until it closed in the 80's. After which he, his father and son opened DCY Marine Innovations, Inc. where they designed and built livewell systems. He also kept his grandchildren after school all through their elementary years. They loved going to what the family knew as "Daddy Don's Daycare" and building things with him. He was an avid fisherman and loved nothing more than to be on the water with a fishing pole in his hand and being the number one sport's fan of all of his grand kids' sporting events. His love for his family was what he will always be remembered for. He was most proud of his children and especially his grandchildren, always telling anyone that would listen about them. Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by infant twin children: David Augustus and Donna Diane Yost. He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 49 years Dixie Mizelle Yost, his children: Danny Yost (Jami), Dee Dee Wright (David) all of Bartow, his brother, John R. "Bobby" Yost of Dunnellon, and his grandchildren: Barron Oglesby, Danielle Yost, Delaney Wright, Denice Wright also all of Bartow, five nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 4th from 6 PM to 8 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow Friday, September 5th at 10:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 500 West Stuart Street in Bartow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs, 4210 77th St. East, Palmetto, FL 34221 in memory of Donald Yost and in honor of Miss Martha, the guide dog he was helping to raise and loved so dearly.
