Mrs. Dayle T. Weinkauf, age 82, died Monday June 2, 2008 in Lakeland from heart failure. Born May 9, 1926 in Bartow, Dayle was the daughter of the late Roy H. and Lila (Campbell) Taylor. Mrs. Weinkauf was a lifelong resident of Bartow. She was a graduate of Summerlin Institute in Bartow and attended Florida State College for Women where she was an Alpha Delta Pi pledge. Mrs. Weinkauf was very active in her community. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild for the last 48 years and was also a member of the Daughters of the King. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She along with her husband "Doc" owned and operated the City Jewelry Store, that was formerly owned by her father Roy Taylor for many years. Mrs. Weinkauf was also an active member of the Bartow Airbase Historical Museum, actually assisting in the set up and acquiring memorabilia for the museum. She was involved in 4H and Youthfair events for many years. Mrs. Weinkauf had many hobbies. Among those were being a charter and longtime member of the Sew Sew sewing club, and avid reader and Bridge Club Member. She started a card making enterprise at her church responsible for raising money for many charitable donations. Dayle also scrapbooked, detailing the historical events of Bartow, her church, and the genealogy of her family. Recently she had even published a detailed scrapbook of her husbands "Doc" Weinkauf's distinguished military career. Finally, until her passing, she independently managed her grove business for many years following the death of her parents and husband..
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Wilson Wayne "Doc" Weinkauf and great granddaughter Kaitlin Nash. She is survived by a loving family that includes her son, Bill Weinkauf (Gayle) of Fort Meade, two daughters; Pam McGarity of Monroe, GA, and Dayle Burns (Jon) of Newington, GA. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren; Kathryn Gay (Ryan), Taylor Weinkauf, Jamie Dutton (Keith), Caroline Nash (Spencer), Taylor McGarity (Tricia), Jon Guerry Burns (Ginny), and Wilson Burns, along with eight great grandchildren; Claudia Gay, Anna Hardy, Elizabeth Weinkauf, Austin Weinkauf, Ian Dutton, Will Dutton, Callen Nash, and Jon David Burns.
Family will receive friends Wed. June 4, 2008 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 500 West Stuart Street in Bartow. Funeral services for Mrs. Weinkauf will follow at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Thurs. June 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM.
