Colon F. Tyson, Sr., 81, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 of respiratory failure, at his residence. Born December 30, 1928 in Bartow, Mr. Tyson was a lifelong resident of Bartow. Mr. Tyson was a diesel mechanic for USS Agrico Phosphate for most of his life prior to owning and operating Tyson's Vehicle Escort Service. He attended Gandy Baptist Church and was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife: Lanora Tyson & son Randy Tyson. He is survived by 2 sons: Colon Tyson, Jr of Charlotte, NC & Wesley Tyson of Bartow; daughter: Ginny Moyer & husband Jim of Lake Wales; 4 stepsons: Ronnie Sjoblom; Donnie Sjoblom; Nathan Sjoblom & Earl Sjoblom, all of Bartow; 2 stepdaughters: Lareitta Shanks of Bartow & Cheryl Lockhart of Highland City. Sister: Gladys West of Lake Wales; brother; Bobby Tyson of Gardenia, FL; 15 grandchildren & several great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Monday, Feb 22, 6-8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 E. Main St, Bartow. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 am Tuesday, Feb 23 at Gandy Cemetery in Connersville, FL. Memorials may be made to Humaine Society of Polk County 1519 Oak View Circle S.E.
