Homeland - Alvie C. "Cody" Gwirtz, age 81, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Bartow Regional Medical Center in Bartow of Heart Failure. Born Saturday, March 14, 1931 in Orlando, FL, Mrs. Gwirtz was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member of the Saint Thomas Catholic Church of Bartow. Mrs. Gwirtz is survived by her husband of 58 years: Eugene H. Gwirtz of Homeland; Son: Tony Gwirtz, Manteca, CA; two daughters: Cynthia Gwirtz-Satterfield, Roundup, MT; Jean Gwirtz, Prescott Valley, AZ; Step-Brother: Thomas Hayes, Fort Meade, FL, 14 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Friday, August 24, 2012 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2180 S. Kissingen Ave, Bartow. Interment will be held at Homeland Cemetery, Homeland.
