Coach James H. Murphy, Jr.

Coach James H. Murphy, Jr. age 83, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023. He was born September 24, 1939 in Logan, West Virginia to James, Sr. and Delsie Murphy. Coach graduated from Logan High School and Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia. He and his wife Janice were married May 28, 1961 in Bristol, Tennessee. He taught school, coached football and track in Bartow for over 35 years. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Bartow. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jeff Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Janice C. Murphy, son Jamie Murphy & wife Carla, daughter-in-law Katie Murphy, granddaughter Morgan Murphy, step grandchildren Brad Chastain, Lauren (Drew) Rutledge, Kyle (Nikki) Chastin, three great grandchildren and sister Patricia M. Calandros. Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow, FL. Funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home.
