Mr. Clarence Linwood Grubbs, Sr., age 89, died from heart failure Wed. June 11, 2008 in Bartow. Born April 30, 1919 in Hilton, GA, Mr. Grubbs had been a Bartow resident since 1945. Mr. Grubbs worked as a Flotation Plant Foreman for Virginia Carolina and Mobil Chemical where he worked for 35 years. Mr. Grubbs was a longtime member of Main Street Baptist Church. He served the church in many ways including Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Mr. Grubbs was an Army Veteran of WWII and also served as a member of the American Legion Post #3 and V.F.W. post #2405 where he was also a past commander. Along with his parents, Mr. Grubbs is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Monday Grubbs, wife Christine Weaver Grubbs, and step daughter JoAnn Hamric. He is survived by a loving family that includes three sons; Lamar Grubbs and wife Marlene, Clarence Grubbs, Jr. and wife Candy, George Grubbs and wife Rosemary all of Bartow, a daughter Etta Shattler and husband Don of Lake Wales, step son Jim Knight of Donalsonville, GA. He also leaves behind a brother, Walter "Lewis" Grubbs of Atlanta, three sisters; Onyx Shaffer of Gainesville, Frances Taylor of Columbus, GA, Sally Calhoun of Columbia, AL, twelve grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home 650 East Main Street in Bartow where family will receive friends Friday June 13, 2008 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral services for Mr. Grubbs will follow Saturday at 11:00 AM at Main Street Baptist Church, 1140 East Main Street Bartow, FL 33830.
