Chesley Andrew Moore

Chesley Andrew "Andy" Moore, age 81, went home to be with our Lord on March 12, 2008 suffering from respiratory failure. He was loved and respected by all whose lives he touched. Andy was born in Fort Myers, Florida on February 11, 1927 and he spent most of his boyhood in Bartow, Florida. He was a graduate of Summerlin Institute in Bartow. He was an Eagle Scout. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended North Carolina State University and graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Andy grew citrus and managed a building supply company in Polk County, FL. In 1961, he moved his family to California, where he worked for North American Rockwell International in Industrial Engineering, on the Apollo Man on the Moon Mission. In 1971 he returned to Florida and worked for over twenty years as a purchasing agent for the Polk County School Board. Upon retiring, he moved to Gainesville, FL, where he and his wife, Eunice had a home on Lake Santa Fe. Together they created great memories with their family and enjoyed their Florida Gators! Andy was a Rotarian, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and he was active in the Fishermen's Sunday School class and the neighborhood Christian team in Gainesville, Florida. He is survived by his loving partner Rubye Beal, his three children Katherine Moore, Nancy Roegiers, and David Moore, Kantherine's husband Dale and her three children Jesse, Garrett, and Blake Riehl, Nancy's husband Tom and her children, Brett, Curtis Andrew, and Kyle, and David's girlfriend Tisha Tillman. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home 650 East Main Street in Bartow where family will receive friends Friday, March 14, 2008 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Services will be Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church 455 S. Broadway in Bartow. Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Andy Moore, to Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida or to the Disabled Veterans of America.
