Charles D. Straughn, 73, died on Sunday, April 24, 2011 of cancer. Born July 5, 1937 in Andalusia, AL. Mr. Straughn was a lifelong resident of Lakeland. He was a Commerical Contractor, holding his General, AC, Electric, Roofing & Plumbing licenses in Polk County. He moved to Marathon in 1978, marrying his wife Janet Marlene Moore in 1979. He developed Casa Marlene Apts, naming it for his wife Janet Marlene. He moved back to Lakeland in 1994. He was involved in many projects in Polk County through the years. He was a Korean war veteran, serving with the 82nd, 101st & 187th Airborne Division. He was the owner of A&B Contractors of Lakeland. He was a member of Scott Lake Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Blue Lodge # 345, Lakeland. He is survived by his wife of 31yrs, Janet M. Straughn; two sons, Curtis Straughn (Robin) of Lakeland, & Chuck Straughn (Kirsten) of Breckenridge, CO; daughters: Darlene Norwine (Pat) of Lakeland; Donna Jenkins (Stan) of August GA,; sisters, Bettie Cutter (Raymond) ; Barbara Joiner (Bill); & Verita Kinsey (Nickey) all of Lakeland; 25 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Scott Lake Baptist Church, Lakeland, Memorials may be made to Scott Lake Baptist Church Building Fund, 5811 Scott Lake Rd, Lakeland 33813.
