Charles Augustus Prevatte

Bartow - Charles Augustus Prevatte, age 97, peacefully passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He was born October 8, 1926 in Cairo, GA to Willis Hiram & Maggie Prevatte. Charles joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and was a WWII Veteran serving in the South Pacific. He worked for Standard Oil in Bartow until they moved their headquarters to Lakeland. Then he formed his own company Prevatte Oil Company which he maintained until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartow for 74 years, where he taught Sunday School. He Coached little league baseball and was a respected father figure for many young boys in his neighborhood. Charles also loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 63 years Edwina Wheeler Prevatte, infant daughter Pricilla Prevatte and his siblings Sarah Green, Dorothy Harrison, Margie Harris, Eleanor Cox and Willis Prevatte. Charles is survived by his four sons Terry Prevatte and wife Cindy of Bartow, Rodney Prevatte and wife Pam of Alturas, Ricky Prevatte and wife Linda of Mulberry and Kevin Prevatte and wife Kay Kay of Bartow, brother James Prevatte, seven grandchildren Tiffany, Brian, Jonathan, Aaron, Shane, Zach and Rob, thirteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces & nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, June 21, 2024 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the First Baptist Church, 410 East Church Street in Bartow, FL. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL.
