Mr. Charles E. Colter, age 87, of Bartow, FL, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2008 from respiratory failure. He was born July 7, 1921 in Wauchula, FL. Mr Colter was a lifelong resident of Polk county and a graduate of Lakeland High School. He earned his degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He was a chemist within the citrus and phosphate industry. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bartow and served on the church council, a Board Member of the First Methodist School, and a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Colter was a WWII veteran, serving with the Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theatre, flying numerous missions over "The Hump" in the Burma-Chinese Theatre. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Mary Simons Colter. One Daughter, Sue Jean & her husband David Jones of Plant City, FL. One Granddaughter , Christen Jones of Plant City, FL. One Grandson, Matthew Jones of Plant City, FL. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street, Bartow, FL. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from 10 to 11 am. The Service will follow at 11:00 am at Whidden-Mclean Funeral Home. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL.
