It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles "Chuck" Butts, who departed this world on June 8, 2026, at the age of 70.
Chuck was born on October 28, 1955, in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late Robert F. Butts Sr. and Lou Ellen Thompson. He is now reunited with his beloved parents, his brother Robert F. Butts II, and his cherished daughter, Kerri L. Butts.
A proud graduate of Lakeland High School, Chuck furthered his education by earning his bachelor’s degree. His sense of duty and service led him to serve honorably as a Machinist’s Mate in the U.S. Navy.
Chuck's career was marked by a dedication to service; he worked as a public safety officer with the Bartow Police Department, contributed to farmland, and served the community through Polk County Code Enforcement. His commitment to service extended into his personal life, where he was a licensed minister with the Church of God and an active member of the VFW.
Family was always a priority. In Chuck's personal life, he was an avid history buff and a huge Elvis fan. His love for music was evident in his role as a bass player in both his church and the band "Bonded by Grace." He also enjoyed watching his favorite football teams, West Virginia and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Chuck was known for his unique sense of humor and his genuine interest in everyone he met. He never met a stranger, only potential friends.
He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his brother David L. Butts; his daughters Kimberly Stephenson (Joe) and Dezarae R. Butts; his sons Charles W. Butts Jr., Jeremy Murdock, and David Murdock (Lindsey); his daughter Nikki Burchett (Eric); and his sister-in-law, Lillia.
Chuck was a proud grandfather to Justine, Ashley (Justin), Zach (Lydia), Jacob, Dakota, Bryanna, Alyssa, Cayleb, Jessica (Mark), Amelia, Ava, Alivia, and Adryenne. He adored his great-grandchildren Jace, Dezarae, Zelina, Zamilia, and Dunia, who will carry forward his love and light.
Chuck's selflessness knew no bounds, and his family fondly remembers his love for food, a passion so profound that he bestowed playful food nicknames upon his grandchildren.
His legacy is one of love, faith, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
