Carlton Wayne Harris, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, left us on June 4, 2026, at the age of 78. Wayne was born on December 24, 1947, in Nocatee, Florida, to his loving parents, Reverend C.D. Harris and Eula Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Jackie Harris Morris and Pat Harris Sleepe, and his brother Donnie Harris.
Wayne’s journey through life was marked by his deep love for family, a pioneering spirit in his career, and a passion for music and community. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Sue Cannon Harris, and their cherished children Evie and Tom Cummings, Matt and Melissa Harris, Wayne and Sabrina Harris, and Suzanne and Shawn Moseley. Grandchildren: Kayla and Keilan Baine, Melanie Cummings, Michael and Cheyenne Cummings, Waylon Harris, Etisone and Brayden Salevao, and Tad Moseley. Great-grandchildren: Liam and Lillyanne Cummings, and Corbin and Carter Moseley.
A graduate of Cocoa Beach High School’s class of 1965, Wayne went on to attend Lee College. He showcased his musical talent as the first chair trumpet, earning multiple state competition awards. His love for music was a constant source of energy and joy throughout his life, and he never missed an opportunity to share a good meal surrounded by family and friends.
Wayne’s career in the wholesale furniture industry spanned over five decades, where he played a pioneering role in establishing and expanding the furniture rent-to-own industry. His influence in the field is a testament to his visionary approach, and his legacy will continue to be felt by all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond his professional achievements, Wayne had a deep love for the local church and a special heart for pastors. He was an encourager and supporter to many who served in the ministry, embodying a spirit of generosity and community. His larger-than-life presence, quick wit, and genuine interest in others allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Wayne truly never met a stranger—only friends he hadn't gotten to know yet.
A natural leader and entrepreneur, Wayne approached every challenge with vision, determination, and confidence. Blessed with the gift of gab, he had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and heard. His charisma and generous spirit inspired those around him and brought people together, cementing his legacy as a man who truly knew how to build relationships and inspire community.
