Bartow- Carlos Fernandez, age 74, died Friday, October 8, 2010 due to complications of an auto accident. Born July 23, 1936 in La Cienega De Loya, Chihuahua, Mex., Mr. Fernandez has been a resident of Bartow since 1957, moving from Texas. He was a crew leader & horticulturist. He was a member and one of the founders of La Mission de Guadalupe of Wahneta; a member of Knights of Columbus; he attended the Chihuahua Seminary in Mexico; was a member of the Greater Lakeland Garden Club including landscaping of Medulla Elementary School, RCMA Day Care of Wahneta & the La Mission de Guadalupe. He helped establish the mission and built a home for the Capuchinas Sisters in Guachochi, Chihuahua, Mex.. He retired from Waverly Growers & Bonnie Brae Fruit Farms. He was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. He is survived by his wife: Carenta Fernandez, of Bartow; three sons: Miguel Fernandez of Lakeland; Carlos Enrico Fernandez & Jose Luis Cornelio both of Bartow; two daughters: Consuelo Lopez of Lakeland; Carmen Yvette Anderson of Bartow; two brothers: Leonardo Perez & Jose Socorro Perez both of Mexico & 9 Grandchildren. Family will receive friends Friday, Oct 15, 2010, 6-8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday 11 am at La Mission de Guadalupe of Wahneta.
