Carlan E. Walters

June 1, 1931 — September 1, 2021

Bartow, Florida - Carlan Eugene Walters, 90, of Bartow, Florida passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and daughters on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Carlan was born on June 1, 1931 to Lawrence George Walters and Verna Decker Walters in Malvern, Ohio. He graduated from Malvern High School in 1949 and served proudly in the Army Air Corps (Air Force) from 1951 - 1955. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Dunlap in 1959 and they spent over 62 wonderful years together. He was a Christian and devoted to his faith in a quiet and unassuming way. He would often see a situation where he could help and go out of his way to be a blessing without wanting to be rewarded or recognized for his actions. He worked for over 32 years for IBM (Canton/Akron Office) repairing computers and was recognized with multiple service awards. Upon retirement, he and Dottie moved to Bartow to be able to spend more time with family. They are active at First Presbyterian Church of Bartow and assisted with the launch of the Heart of Florida Walk to Emmaus Community. Carlan is survived by his wife Dottie and daughters: Susan (Eric) Ehrhart and Lynette (Jeff) Spence of Bartow. Grandchildren: Jillian (Terry) Capper of Bartow , Erin Lyn Ehrhart of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Joshua (Erika) Spence of Winter Park, FL and Jacob Spence of Winter Haven, FL. Great Grandchildren: Charlotte and Harriette Capper, Micah and Norah Spence. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda Brothers of Minerva, OH and a brother, David (Norma) Walters of Wadsworth, OH. He enjoyed spending time with many nieces and nephews and the Annual 4th of July Reunion was always the highlight of his summer. Additional close family members include Kent, Charissa, Allison and Cameron Kesler as well as Eugene and Connie Phillips. The family would like to invite you to join them for a visitation at First Presbyterian Church, Bartow at 10:00 am on Monday, September 6, 2021 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Additionally, a family calling hours will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 am on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva, OH which will be followed by a graveside service at Leavittsville Cemetery, Leavittsville, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida www.feedhopenow.org because Carlan always had a heart for hungry people or Malvern United Methodist Church, 121 W. Wood Street, Malvern, Ohio 44644 because that is where Carlan first found Jesus. Condolences to the family at whiddenmcleanfuneralhome.com
