Bartow - Carl Llewellyn Royal, age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland Florida. He was born on April 4, 1938, in Lake Wales, Florida. Carl was raised in Waverly and Lake Wales Florida and remained a life long resident of Polk County, Florida. He attended Lake Wales High School through 1956. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years. His career included working at Publix grocery store as well as being a Welder for IMC for 25 years. After he retired from IMC he went back to work at Publix. In January of 2025 he had worked for Publix twice spanning a total of 28 years. Some of his hobbies included planting vegetable gardens, taking care of all kinds of plants and flowers, fishing, bar-b-q’s, going on vacations to the mountains, day trips to local flea markets, and outdoor venues. Road trips rambling all over central Florida were one of his favorite things to do. A true animal lover, he had a special place in his heart especially for cats. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, James Elbert and Rena Lou Royal as well as both of his brothers, James and Alfred Royal. He is survived by his only sister, Reba Pearson. Other loving members of his surviving family include 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren and a wonderful lifetime partner, Patricia (Sissy) Johnson. A Gravesite Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Lake Wales Cemetery located south of Hwy 60 on Hwy 27. Carls nephew, Pastor Ray Athey will be officiating the service.
