Bill Shuler

June 7, 1953 — September 5, 2023

Bill Shuler is known for his faith, generosity, love, charm, and indomitable spirit. To know Bill is to love him. His sparkling blue eyes that always hold a twinkle and his penchant for quirky idioms will certainly be missed. William Herron Shuler was born in Nashville on June 7, 1953 to Cecil Moran and Sarah Dorcas Shuler as the middle child, with his two brothers Jim (Diana) and Bob (Ronnie) surviving him. Memories of life on his grandparents’ farm were constant companions for the rest of his life, which he affectionately shared with his loved ones. After a brief period of time in Salt Lake City, Bill enlisted in the US Navy and would quip that his short stature led to his assignment to the submarine service. Around this time, Bill’s sons Paul Edward (deceased shortly after birth), and later Christian Moran were born. Bill and Chris share blue eyes and the ability to elucidate on many topics. After graduating from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor’s in History, Bill became a Vice President for Diversified Storage Systems. He was known for his mechanical prowess and traveled throughout his career. The mechanical side of his mind was always active and Bill’s fascination with planes, trains, and automobiles lasted his whole life. It was at a charity event that he asked out the love of his life, Carolyn Burnett-Shuler. They were together for a wonderful 3 years of dating, married on February 12, 2022, and enjoyed a blissful year and a half of marriage. They formed a large happy family that includes Christian Shuler, Paul Apisa, Luke Apisa, and Christy Apisa. Bill loved his family dearly and they love him deeply and he will be missed beyond measure. Anyone who met Bill in the past 5 years heard of his deep love for Carolyn. Together they lived in Lakeland, Florida and went on many adventures. They were members of Highlands Church of Christ, patrons of the Polk Museum of Art, supporters of Parker Street Ministries, and traveled to visit family and friends across the country. Bill knew what he loved and was a regular at several local restaurants. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing with his brother, cooking for his family, and being with those he loved. With a total of 8, Bill fostered a love for dogs for many years and was known as a friend to all canine companions throughout his life. His gentle way and caring spirit complemented his generosity to all. While it is impossible to fully describe all of the people whose lives Bill touched and to convey the number of people who will deeply miss him; this loving, funny, faithful, generous man has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. We love you and miss you so much. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 10:30am at the Highlands Church of Christ, 5730 Lakeland Hughlands Road, Lakeland, FL, 33813 The service will be live-streamed via the Highland Church of Christ YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@highlandschurchofchrist9903/streams)
