Beverly Sue Mitchell, age 78, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026. She was born on November 24, 1948, in Bartow, Florida. Attending Sunday school growing up was something Beverly always cherished-it was there that she first fell in love with the Lord, a love that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Her deep faith in God became a guiding light, helping her face and fight the challenges of depression and anxiety. She never saw herself as a victim, but rather as a survivor, courageously meeting life’s trials with grace and resilience.

From an early age, Beverly had a passion for sports-football, tennis, and golf were among her favorites-and that love endured throughout her life. At just five years old, she was skiing on Crooked Lake on a single wooden ski, fearless and full of life. She also delighted in dancing-tap and ballroom dancing in particular-and loved dancing with her dad.

Beverly was active in Brownies and Girl Scouts, and she carried fond memories of her Grandmother Mitchell, who taught her important life lessons. One of her most treasured memories was sitting at the piano while her grandmother played “In the Garden,” a hymn that remained one of her favorites throughout her life.

She attended Montverde Academy, where she thrived, even serving as the eagle mascot at basketball games. One of her proudest moments was being elected Senior Class President-especially since she won over her brother! Beverly was always ready for fun, especially when it meant getting into (and out of) mischief with her friends and brother.

She collaborated with her dad and brothers in the family’s cattle and citrus business, L&M Fruit Company. She was a true Florida Gator Football fan. Beverly attended Summerlin High School, she served as a candy striper, later becoming a “pink lady,” at Bartow Memorial Hospital and eventually graduating from the Nethercott Institute of Nursing. She worked for six years at Atlanta’s Grady Hospital and at Martin Luther Nursing Home before returning home to care for her family.

At the age of thirty-five, Beverly’s life changed forever with the birth of her son, one of her greatest joys. She devoted herself to raising him, finding purpose and peace in motherhood. Later, becoming a grandmother to her beloved grandson, Noah Scott, brought her even deeper joy. Her time with Noah was among her happiest.

Beverly also adored her nieces and nephews and took extraordinary pride in watching them grow and build families of their own. However, her heart was forever broken by the tragic loss of her youngest brother, Scott. She struggled deeply with the pain and the sense of injustice surrounding his murder.

Despite life’s hardships, Beverly never stopped loving deeply. She treasured her friends and felt truly blessed that they stood by her through everything. Their loyalty and love meant the world to her.

Beverly’s life was marked by love, strength, faith, and perseverance. Her memory lives on in those she loved so dearly and in the countless lives she touched with her compassion, her laughter, and her unwavering spirit.

She is preceded in death by her parents W. B. “Preacher” Mitchell and Betty Sue Mitchell, and four brothers Jerry, Berry, Scott, and Roy Dan Mitchell. She is survived by her son Christopher Charles Mitchell of Orlando, her grandson Noah Scott Mitchell of Orlando and multiple nieces and nephews along with four special friends, Laura Sedlmayr of Tampa, Patti Young of Lakeland, Veronica Chamberlin of Orlando, and Pam Mitchell of Bartow.
