Betty Jane Fulton

November 2, 1925 — March 9, 2016

Betty Jane “Mimi” Fulton passed away March 9, 2016 due to complications from pneumonia and Lewy Body dementia at the Spring Lake Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Tampa on November 2, 1925 to the late Arthur A. Keen and Theresa Yearwood Keen and grew up in Frostproof. After graduation she attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA and Rollins College in Winter Park, before receiving her Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Florida. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Werner C. “Skeet” Fulton, in a garden wedding at her family home in Frostproof. Following their graduation from UF, they made their home in Bartow briefly, and then moved to what was to become their home town of Frostproof. There they were blessed with three daughters, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. As a devoted wife and mother, her life revolved around her husband, family, friends, and church. She and Skeet belonged to the First United Methodist Church, where Betty Jane taught Sunday school and served as President of the Women’s Society. Her faith was an example to everyone who knew her and her selflessness and generosity was endless. Later in life, she and Skeet joined the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she loved singing in the choir and attending circle meetings. Her social activities included golfing with her friends, cooking for family and others, and playing bridge. Her civic involvement was also an important part of her life and she enjoyed serving on the Committee for the Restoration of Frostproof High School which now serves as the City Hall and city auditorium. Her finest accomplishment however, was that she loved her family, was the kindest, sweetest person imaginable, and she loved the Lord with all of her heart. Her beautiful smile could brighten everyone’s day and her sweet nature made her a joy to be with. As the center of our family, we relied on her loving spirit to guide us through both good and difficult times. Her love for our father was a beautiful example of marriage and they lived each day side by side, hand in hand. She will be immensely missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty five years, Werner C. Fulton and sister, Gail Baldini. She is survived by her daughters Deborah K. Sizemore (Alan) of Winter Haven; Jan F. Crawford (Hugh) of Bartow; Lynn F. Aaron of Winter Haven; her six grandchildren Clay Sizemore (Marcy) of Thomasville, GA; Preston Sizemore (Marie) of Palm Beach Gardens; Drew Crawford (Amanda) of Bartow; Chip Crawford of Providence, RI; JaLeeann Johnston (Jerimiah) of Winter Haven; Lorilynn (Adam) Cox of Winter Haven; seven great grandchildren Braxton and Hudson Sizemore, Emma and Jacob Sizemore, Jenna Johnston, Barrett and Olivia Cox; and sister-in-law, Yvonne Fulton of Jacksonville. A funeral service will be held at Redeemer City Church in Winter Haven on Thursday, March 17, 2016, with visitation beginning at 1pm. The service will be held at 2pm, with a reception following in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823.
