Betty Jewell Corley

December 24, 1933 — July 4, 2022

Betty Jewell Corley, 88, joined her husband in Heaven after passing away peacefully July 4th, 2022. The former Wahneta resident was born in Pulaski, Virginia on December 24, 1933 and moved to Florida to raise her family after marrying her husband, Burrell “Wild Bill” Corley. Later in life, Betty called Apex, North Carolina home. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was filled with pride and love for her family. Betty was a hard worker and displayed perseverance throughout her life, from completing her education after raising six kids to selling Florida citrus with her husband. She and Bill loved traveling, their favorite destination being the bingo tables in Las Vegas. Betty had a deeply held faith in Christ, sharp wit, and dry sense of humor. The only thing bigger than her sweet tooth was her heart. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Burrell “Bill” Corley; son Tony “Pine Tree” Corley; parents, Emory and Eliza Nixon; two sisters, Margaret Hulion and Libby Moser; and brothers Johnny and Bill. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Corley Queen and Brenda Corley; three sons, Reverend Ed Corley and wife Kathie, Timmy and wife Jennie, and Brian and wife Debi; treasured friend and loved one Patsy Morelock; five sisters, Janie McClenney, Glenna Kiser, Shirley Griggs, Barbara Paine, and Sherry Carpenter and a brother, Jimmy Nixon; half-sister O-Neta Farmer; five grandsons, Reverend Gary Corley, Larry Varnadoe, Reverend Jason Corley, Stephen Corley and Chad Whittington; five granddaughters, Lori Carfagno, Nicki Corley Knowles, Amanda Corley Dowdy, Kristina Drexler, Tera Boyd, and Nicole Wyatt; thirty-one great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Foster officiating. Burial will be held at Eagle Lake Cemetery in Eagle Lake, FL.
