Annette Hunter

Bartow - Annette Hunter, age 92, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Born February 4, 1926 in Perry, FL, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cull and Minnie Jewel (Sawyer) Maples. Annette lived in Bartow for over 50 years and was a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. She was a resident of Water’s Edge of Lake Wales at the time of her death. Passionate about education, Annette worked as a teacher, Curriculum Coordinator, Principal, and tutor. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed teaching children to read. She was known for her warm smile and her ability to make each person feel loved and special. Along with her parents, Annette was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Hunter. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, whom she considered sons: Judy and Win Stevens of Millbrook, NY, and Jan and Norm Phillips of The Woodlands, TX. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren: Brad Stevens and his wife, Danica; Chelsea Stevens, Andrew Phillips, Natalie McCallum and her husband, David; Jill Quinn and her husband, Sean. She also had the joy of knowing her three great-grandchildren: Quinn, Benjamin, and August. Other survivors include her “adopted” daughter April Neal and many other loving caregivers at Water’s Edge. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 10am to 11am at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. A memorial service will follow at 11am in the funeral home chapel.
