Alvena Watts Newport

Alvena Watts Newport, age 101, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022, in Lakeland. Born October 25, 1920, in Bartow, she was the daughter of the late Alva Bascum Watts and Mattie Cordelia (Mathews) Watts. Alvena was a Secretary for the Polk County School Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Raymond Newport and sisters Martha Middleton, Lois Boyles, Ruby Mooneyham, Shirley Hickman and brother Marvin Watts. Alvena is survived by a loving family that includes her children: Linda Fazekas of Missoula, MT, George William Newport of Saint Petersburg, and her grandchildren: Lynn Fazekas of Bartow and John Fazekas, Jr. of Missoula, MT. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 2nd from 2pm to 4pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Interment and Committal services will be private.
