A. V. Coker

A. V. Coker, Sr, 89, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center of respiratory failure. Born March 27, 1920 in Gardner, FL, Mr. Coker was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Coker was a general field supervisor for Lake Garfield Citrus Co-op. & a citrus grower. He was a member of the Bartow First Baptist Church; Florida Citrus Mutual; National Rifle Assocation & an avid quail hunter and outdoorsman. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the Combat Engineers in the European and Pacific theaters. He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline & son Abner Coker Jr. He is survived by his daughter: Judy C. & husband Buddy McDonald; son: Robert C. "Bobby" & wife Mary Ruth Coker all of Tallahassee; daughter-in-law Pat Coker; brother: George C. "Cliff" Coker both of Bartow; Grandchildren: Jessica Justice; Paula & husband Evan Jones; Robert C. Coker, Jr. & wife Olivia; John Ashbell Coker; Patrick "A.V." Coker; Cathy & husband Randal Whitten; Chris & husband Mario Cabrera; Candi Greene & 9 Great Grandchildren. Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 7, 6-8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am at the First Baptist Church, 410 E. Main St. Bartow.
